Hope Less (2017) evokes the monuments erected in memory of our fallen; gold crosses bought from pawnbrokers hang from gold thread plucked from minister’s gowns tied to delicate copper gallows atop vertical, solid oak beams. The receipt for each cross is laser-etched onto one face of each beam, exposing the desperate act of selling one’s personal symbol of faith and protection for cash.
