Hope Less (2017) gold crosses bought from pawnbrokers hang from gold thread plucked from minister’s gowns tied to delicate copper gallows atop vertical, solid oak beams. The receipt for each cross is laser-etched onto one face of each beam, exposing the desperate act of selling one’s personal symbol of faith and protection for cash.
